What you get today

Natal chart calculation

Send a date, time and place of birth, and get back a full natal chart: the positions of the planets and key points such as the lunar nodes, Lilith and Chiron; the houses, in the house system you choose; the aspects between them; and the aspect patterns they form.

Charts are calculated for a known time of birth. If the time is unknown, a noon chart is also available — without houses, and with the Moon's range over the birth day, so you can see whether it changed sign.

Birth place search

As your user starts typing the name of their birth town, the API suggests matching places. Once a place is chosen, Astronova works out its location and time zone for the chart, so nobody has to look up coordinates or time offsets.

How we calculate

Charts use the tropical zodiac. The lunar node is the true node, not the mean node.

Positions are calculated for the coordinates of the birth place itself, rather than for the centre of the Earth. Most astrology software calculates from the centre of the Earth instead, so a chart you compare against one may not agree exactly — most visibly for the Moon. That is expected on both sides and is not an error in either.
